Joel M. Alam

Joel Alam is a partner in the Southfield office of Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss. He is a member of the Firm's Corporate and Business Transactions Group, specializing in public and private placements of equity and debt securities, mergers and acquisitions, entity organizations and general corporate matters. He is also a member of the Firm's Emerging and Growth Business Practice Group. Mr. Alam counsels financial institutions and merchant-acquiring and payment system businesses on merger and acquisition matters and represents both buyers and sellers of merchant portfolios and businesses in the credit card processing industry.

In addition to his law firm experience, Mr. Alam was Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Boston Chicken, Inc. from 1996 - 1998. As chief inside legal counsel for the food service chain, Mr. Alam handled private and public debt and equity financings. He also was involved in Boston Chicken's financed area developer negotiations and acquisitions, as well as in the formation and consolidation of Einstein/Noah Bagel Corporation.

Mr. Alam earned his Bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and is a graduate with highest distinction of the DePaul University College of Law, where he served as the editor of the DePaul Law Review.
