James J. Parks

James J. Parks is a partner in the Southfield office of Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss. He is a member of the Firm's Litigation and Employment & Labor Practice Groups with a national practice including complex litigation, traditional labor and employment law. He has vast experience representing both Plaintiffs and Defendants. Jim is a certified and accomplished mediator and arbitrator. Before practicing law he worked as a Federal Agent for the National Labor Relations Board in Los Angeles. Jim represents clients before myriad State and Federal Courts throughout the United States on various complex litigation matters including: intellectual property rights, international transactions and contracts, bullet resistant armor, Uniform Commercial Code, theft of rare artifacts, probate matters, discrimination, harassment, traditional labor law and all types of employment related issues.

Jim currently serves as Secretary of the Executive Board and Board Member of the Oakland County Bar Association, and also serves as a Discovery Master and Case Evaluator for the Oakland County Circuit Court. He hosted the TV show "The Lawyers Roundtable" and served as chair for the Lawyer Referral Service and the Circuit Court Committees of the Bar Association. Jim was elected as the Michigan State Bar delegate for the 6th Circuit Court. Mr. Parks is also the recipient of the 2010 Bar Professionalism Award. He is passionate about giving back to his community, serving on the Board of Winning Futures and weekly engages in mentoring high school age students.

Jim attended Michigan State University and earned his Bachelor's degree through the Honors Program at the University of Arizona. He earned his Juris Doctor from Pepperdine University School of Law, located in Malibu Beach California. He practiced in Houston and Dallas before relocating home to Detroit in 1986.
