Delays spur interest in private planes

....... Alternatives to commercial flying aren't cheap. ADI Aerodynamics Inc. charges $1,000 a flight hour for a ride in a King Air 300 and $4,300 an hour for a Gulf Stream III.

Tradewinds wants new partners to buy one-eighth of a King Air, about $500,000, as an entry fee and pay about $120,000 a year after that.

"It's more expensive than commercial, no question," said Ralph Margulis, a partner at Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer & Weiss P.C. and a member of that firm's aviation group. "But business still has to go on. Executives still have to travel. They haven't said, 'I'm afraid to fly.' They're concerned about the security and time. Timing is everything in business." Jaffe, Raitt's aviation group, among other services, advises clients on corporate-flight alternatives.
