2001-2002 Business Roundtable Series
The first in a series of Women in Business events, held October 16, 2001 at
Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss was a resounding success !!
The topic -
"Navigating the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001."
A panel of Jaffe Raitt women attorneys discussed the new tax law and its impact on businesses and individuals. The presentation covered changes to the tax rate structure, marriage penalty relief, family tax relief, education incentives, estate and tax provisions, Individual Retirement Accounts and retirement plan changes. Pre and postnuptial agreements and separation of assets within a marriage was also covered.

Following are the dates and times for the next two roundtable discussions:
"The Savvy Business Woman"
This discussion will cover three areas of vital importance to every business woman. First we will discuss effective negotiating strategies, including communication styles unique to women and how to get the most out of any negotiation. Next we will turn to the importance of "due diligence," or how to investigate a company with which you are thinking of doing business. We'll wrap up by providing tips on how to protect a business if a customer or vendor goes into bankruptcy.

"Employment Issues 101-What Every Employer Needs to Know"
Whether you are a business owner, administrator or manager, join us to discuss the employment issues you should be aware of and learn how to avoid pitfalls. First, we will discuss recent changes in the law and the employment policies every business needs to address in the areas of harassment, discrimination, discipline and discharge, family and medical leave, and internet usage. Next, we will teach you how to address specific employee problems, including ADA and accommodation issues, employee theft and improper use of e-mail and the Internet. Finally, we will offer strategies to handle wrongful discharge, harassment and discrimination claims.
